Digital Mucous Cysts – These are cysts that occur near the nail bed, often affecting the finger or toes. They filled a thick, clear fluid and can cause discomfort, especially if they affect nail growth.
Steatocystoma – These are rare, benign cysts that develop in the sebaceous (oil) glads. They ofen appear on the chest, upper arms, and neck and contain an oily, yellowish fluid.
Dermoid Cysts – Though more commonly found in other areas of the body, dermoid cysts can occur on the skin. These cysts form from trapped skin and hair cells and may contain various tissues like hair, or skin glands.

Laser Cyst Removal

During laser cyst removal, the CO₂ laser is used to dissolve the inner contents. Complete removal of the cyst wall is crucial to prevent its recurrence, making laser treatments a preferred option, especially for delicate skin areas like the face. Most skin cysts are benign and harmless, but they can become infected or inflamed, causing discomfort or needing treatment. However, on certain occasions and if deemed necessary, a more detailed examination of a cyst might be carried out to rule out any potential cancerous signs.

What is a sebaceous cyst?

Sebaceous cysts, also known as epidermal or epidermoid cysts, are dome-shaped lesions that are generally found on the face, neck, or torso.

They are mostly harmless but can become uncomfortable if they go unchecked. Most walled cysts are soft to the touch and grow slowly, and can vary from a few millimetres to 5 centimetres in diameter. Ruptures might also occur, resulting in the discharge of soft, yellow keratin material into the dermis.

What causes sebaceous cysts?

Sebaceous cysts are caused by the oil (sebum) produced by the sebaceous gland. Cysts develop from the sebaceous gland if the gland or its duct becomes damaged or blocked. This usually occurs when there is a scratch, a surgical wound, or a skin condition, such as acne. As sebaceous cysts grow slowly, the injury may have happened weeks or months before you notice the cyst.
