Scar Removal

Scarring is a common concern for many individuals, and it can affect both appearance and self-confidence. Scars are primarily composed of collagen, but they lack the elasticity found in normal tissues.

At CMC, we offer advanced laser treatments designed to effectively reduce the appearance of scars. This technology targets and improves different kinds of scarring, such as keloid, hypertrophic, atrophic, stretch marks, and acne scars.

Scar treatments and improvements may require the combination of more than just one laser scar removal source to selectively and effectively reach the depth of the skin abnormality.

The Co2 laser, by controlling the depth of the vaporisation and repair processes, reduces the visible atrophy and level the edges of scars and stimulates the production of new collagen.

The 1064nm laser source can be used to penetrate skin tissue, stimulate new collagen and provide the skin with renewed glow and tone.

Corticosteroids may also be injected directly into hypertrophic scars or keloids to help reduce their size.

Types of Scarring

Keloid scars can appear as a raised scar, grow to much larger sizes, and potentially turns into neoplasms. The difference between hypertrophic and keloid scars is that keloid scars do not grow outside the wound area.

This form of scar causes the skin to rise and is the result of the body overproducing collagen. They take the form of a raised lump on the skin roughly 4-8 weeks after a wound, infection or wound closure in addition to skin injuries or tension.

This type of scarring appears as an indent or recess, appearing like a pit on the skin surface. This is because the structures that can support the skin, such as fat or muscle, are missing in that particular area. Atrophic scarring is usually associated with acne, surgery, and certain animal bites.

Stretch marks are technically known as striae are another form of scarring. Rapid stretching of the skin is the cause for striae which can occur for various reasons such as pregnancy, significant weight gain or even puberty. While they do tend to fade in appearance after several years if proper care is taken, these can remain at a very shallow level.

Acne scars are permanent textural changes and indentations that may occur as a result of severe acne. If acne is left untreated, it will lead to scarring and can form pigmentation or dark spots which are more difficult to treat in the long term.
